9. Creating Beautiful Walkways

from:

Any path, which is used for walking, is termed as a ‘walkway’ or one can say that a path which is not enclosed and is used for the purpose of walking is a walkway. It can be floating or elevated or laid out straight on ground. Walkways can constitute an important part of your garden. They can add to the décor of your house and beauty of your garden. Durability and easy maintenance are the two important features of any walkway. You can create great designs and add aesthetic appeal through walkways by being a little creative. There are few concepts, which can be used by anyone for creating a walkway in their gardens.

Generally walkways are four feet wide but the width can be more or less than four feet depending on the space available. The walkway leads us to the main door from the road or driveway or they can help us in enter the backyard. Two people should be able to walk comfortably in a four feet wide walkway.

If you want to create a walkway, which has a geometric design, then the driveway should be perpendicular to the walkway. In the geometric design the walkway turns by ninety degrees when it reaches the door.

One of the simplest methods of creating a curved walkway is to create a big arc. We can create our own lawn inside the curve.

A good walkway is one, which has wider starting and ending points.

It’s important that you choose colorful rocks, stones and paving materials. They can be either matching or in contrast with the color of the house. Blue stones look fabulous when used for a brick house. Travertine and tumbled pavers are available in a wide range of colors.

Lights play an important role in creating a good ambience while we are walking through our walkway up to the house. You can use stepping stones which are lit for your walkway. They are less expensive and they use sunlight as their source of energy. In this way we conserve energy and save on electricity bills as well. Stepping stones are very attractive and give a different touch to our walkways at nights.

When you are not at home the solar stepping stones will be switched on automatically and give a feeling that someone is at home. So in this way they provide a kind of security to your home.

You can also use lights other than solar stepping stones in your walkway as it’s a matter of personal choice and taste.

A walkway is the mirror of your home and by using your own creativity and doing a little bit of research you can make your walkway look beautiful and different from others and you can become the proud owner of a beautiful home.
