Why You Should Consider a Home Security Companion System

from:

We’ve all seen the television commercials about home security systems where people who have fallen (and can’t get up) can press a button, which is usually affixed to a pendant hanging around the neck or a wristband, which summons help from a monitoring center. The representative at the monitoring center can then notify the proper authorities and the person receives help in a timely manner. Although it is usually the elderly portrayed in these commercials, these kinds of home security units can be a life saver for others as well.

Medical Monitoring

Anyone, regardless of age, who has special medical conditions or who may be prone to falls can benefit from a medical monitoring system. Since many of these systems have a wide range, customers are even protected when they go outside, when gardening, for example. People who may be especially prone to heart attacks or strokes can press a single button far easier than they can locate and dial a telephone. Some of these systems even include welfare checks, which can be pre-programmed throughout various times of the day. Basically, the customer would hear an alarm and then press a button in response. This would assure the monitoring center, as well as loved ones, that the customer was indeed well at any given time. While not a substitute for live care, these types of systems allow many people to either live alone or stay alone so loved ones can work or simply go to the store when necessary with the peace of mind that their loved ones can contact someone if something should go wrong.

Domestic Violence

Some home security systems that offer monitoring services also include domestic violence monitoring as part of their optional services customers can sign up for. With this service, the unit, or panic button remains in silent mode yet when it is pressed, the monitoring service is able to listen in on what is happening and notify police. The customer also has the option to provide offender information ahead of time so that when the monitoring service notifies the police they are able to include pertinent information about the offender. This could be a lifesaving device for those who have escaped domestic violence situations or even for those who are still trapped in them.

Security When Living Alone

These types of home security companion systems can make it much safer for anyone living alone, regardless of their medical history, age, or experience with domestic violence. By being able to merely press one button and come in contact with a monitoring service that can hear what is going on, customers can rest assured that police will be on their way immediately, even if they can’t get to a phone or are in immediate contact with an intruder.
